A Typical Day at Kalimaya Dive Resort
Wondering what a day actually looks like at a remote dive resort west of Komodo?
Here’s how it unfolds, from the first cup of coffee to the last bite of dinner.
Morning: Coffee, Breakfast, and the Dive Briefing

The day starts early but gently. Coffee is available from 6:30am for early risers who want to watch the sunrise over Komodo Island and Gili Banta from their terrace before the day gets going.
Breakfast service begins at 7am. The night before, guests choose from a small selection of hot breakfast options, which the chef prepares fresh in the morning, alongside a cold buffet of fruit, pastries, and other staples.
At 7:45am, divers and snorkellers gather at the dive centre for the daily briefing. This is where the dive team shares the plan for the day, which of Kalimaya’s exclusive sites will be visited, what conditions to expect, and what marine life might be encountered. Every plan is built around the day’s conditions and the experience level of the group, so whether you’re a first-time diver or chasing rare macro life, the day is shaped around you.
The Boat Trip

Boats depart at 8am, heading out to one of Kalimaya’s private dive or snorkel sites across West Komodo, Gili Banta, Sangeang Volcano, or the Sumbawa coastline. Two dives or snorkels are completed during the morning session, with plenty of time on the surface between sites to relax, dry off, and swap stories about what everyone saw underwater.
Lunch and Afternoon: Your Time

The boat returns to the resort around 1pm, just in time for a two-course lunch back at the restaurant. After lunch, the rest of the day is yours.
Many guests head straight back into the water, the house reef sits just off the resort’s private beach and is open for unlimited independent diving and snorkelling. It’s one of Indonesia’s best muck diving sites, so an afternoon spent slowly working the sand in search of nudibranchs, frogfish, and octopus is time well spent.
For those who’d rather stay dry, the afternoon is open for kayaking along the private beach, relaxing by the pool, or simply doing nothing at all, which, this far from anywhere, is its own kind of luxury.
Afternoon Snacks and Evening

At 4pm, the kitchen sends out afternoon snacks, a small but welcome ritual that punctuates the lazy part of the day.
Dinner is served at 7pm, a three-course plated meal showcasing Indonesian and Southeast Asian flavours made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Once a week, the kitchen puts on a seafood BBQ, a guest favourite and one of the highlights of any stay.
For divers who want more time underwater, night diving is available, an entirely different experience on the house reef, where many of Kalimaya’s most prized macro species come out after dark.
A Day Shaped Around You

No two days at Kalimaya look exactly the same. Some guests dive twice a day, every day. Others split their time between the water, the beach, and doing very little at all. The resort’s small size, just 13 rooms plus a private villa, means the team gets to know what each guest enjoys, and the days naturally shape themselves around that.
That’s the rhythm of life west of Komodo. Slow mornings, world-class diving, good food, and a lot of ocean in between.
